6th Inniskilling Dragoons Cap Badge

Under Review

Material: Bi-metal
Size: 45mm w × 40mm h
Description: This original British Army other ranks cap badge is expertly struck in two distinct parts. The main body features the iconic Castle of Enniskillen, rendered in crisp white metal with finely textured brickwork. Rising above the central turret is the flag of St. George, which flies proudly towards the right. Mounted below the fortress base is a curved, downward-arching scroll made of gilding metal brass that bears the regimental title "INNISKILLING" in bold, raised block letters. The reverse of this heavy cavalry insignia is equipped with a vertical brass mounting slider designed to slide firmly onto service hats or the traditional beret-style caubeen.
Circa: 1896-1922
Notes:

The design honors the regiment's historic origins in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, where they were initially raised in 1689 to defend the town during the Williamite War. This particular heavy cavalry unit achieved legendary status for charging with the Union Brigade at the Battle of Waterloo and conducting the triumphant Charge of the Heavy Brigade at Balaclava during the Crimean War. This specific cap badge format was retired in 1922 when the unit merged with the 5th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards to form the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, making early independent 6th Dragoons pieces highly prized by militaria collectors.
