Highland Light Infantry Cap Badge

Under Review

Material: White metal (nickel-brass alloy)
Size: 55 mm w × 55 mm h
Description: This vintage military collectible is an original other ranks (ORs) die-stamped white metal cap badge belonging to the Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment). The complex design centers around a multifaceted, dimpled saltire star of the Order of the Thistle, which is topped by a prominent, uncrowned imperial King's Crown (KC). Superimposed over the star is a traditional French bugle horn containing an integrated, interlocking "HLI" monogram at its center. Suspended immediately below the horn is an elegant battle honor scroll reading "ASSAYE", which directly overlies an intricately detailed elephant standing on a small ground plot at the lowest point of the saltire star. The unmarked reverse features two wire lugs.
Circa: 1901 – 1952
Notes:
The elements on this insignia represent a visual merger of the regiment’s ancestral units. The central bugle horn pays homage to the 71st (Highland) Light Infantry, while the elephant and the "Assaye" battle scroll honor the 74th Highlanders' legendary stand at the Battle of Assaye in India under the Duke of Wellington.
