Curving beneath the base of the coronet is a decorative scroll banner embossed with the traditional Scottish Gaelic regiment motto "BYDAND". The unmarked reverse has a pair of loop lugs.
Circa: 1881-1994
Notes:
This insignia stands as one of the most recognizable and fiercely proud designs in British military history, blending heraldic emblems deeply tied to the North East of Scotland. The central stag and ducal coronet were directly adapted from the ancestral family crest of the Marquess of Huntly, commemorating the Duke of Gordon who originally raised the historic 92nd Regiment of Foot back in 1794. The bold motto "BYDAND" translates from old Scots to mean "Steadfast" or "Remaining," a calling card perfectly embodied by the regiment through severe actions ranging from the Western Front of World War I to the mountains of the Falklands War.
