British General Service Corps Cap Badge

Under Review

Material: Brass
Size: 40mm w × 40mm h
Description: The die-cut design portrays the complete Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom, featuring a central shield enveloped by the Order of the Garter motto, "Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense". Supporting the shield are a crowned rampant lion on the left and a chained unicorn on the right, both standing proudly over the sovereign motto "Dieu Et Mon Droit" on stylized lower scrolls. The reverse is unmarked and fitted with its original dual fixing loops, which were used to secure the piece to a service cap or side hat.
Circa: 1902–1952
Notes:

The General Service Corps badge acted as a universal, baseline insignia for personnel who were not yet assigned or did not belong to a specific regiment. It was extensively utilized during both World Wars to outfit new recruits at basic training battalions before they received their final unit postings. Because it features only the sovereign's coat of arms rather than a localized regimental name, it remains one of the most widely recognized symbols of twentieth-century British military mobilization.
