Material: Nickel-silver or chrome-plated brass
Size: 27mm w × 35mm h
Description: This distinctive nickel-plated brass uniform insignia is a classic Boys' Brigade Three Years' Service Badge. The die-cast design beautifully merges Christian and nautical iconography by layering a bold Greek cross directly over a detailed mariner's anchor woven with an intertwined rope. Flanked by prominent capital letters "B" on either side, the anchor features the organization’s historic biblical motto, split neatly with "SURE" across the top stock bar and "STEDFAST" engraved along the lower curved fluke.
Reverse: Pin back, marked HW MILLER LTD.
Circa: 1926-1960s
Notes:
The core design elements of this badge hold deep spiritual significance, directly drawing inspiration from the King James Bible verse Hebrews 6:19, which describes Christian hope as a secure "anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast". While the anchor was part of the original 1883 emblem, the red cross background was added specifically during the 1926 merger to represent faith and the foundational sacrifice of Christ.
