Description: This definitive postage stamp from the Republic of Turkey features a detailed engraved landscape illustration of the Rumeli Hisarı fortress in deep blue ink against a crisp white background. The design showcases the massive stone towers and defensive ramparts rising steeply from the shoreline of the Bosporus. The country name "TÜRKİYE" is boldly printed across the top right quadrant, positioned directly above the large numerical denomination "40." The specific location name "RUMELİ HİSARI" is cleanly inscribed inside a shaded rectangular block at the lower right corner, and a partial black circular postal cancellation mark is stamped across the upper left section of the frame.

Circa: 1950s-1960s

Condition: Used

Notes:

The fortress depicted on this stamp was constructed in 1452 by Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II the Conqueror in preparation for the successful siege and fall of Constantinople.
