Republic of Turkey Official Stamp

Under Review

Description: This issue is an official government stamp from the Republic of Turkey, featuring a design centered around a large stylized numeral "5". The top of the rectangular frame prominently reads "TURKIYE," while an arched banner directly above the central circle displays the word "RESMÎ," which translates to "Official" in Turkish. The backdrop of the central numeral consists of crisp, vertical shading lines enclosed within a perfect circle. Flanking the central circle are beautifully symmetric, flowing palm-like fronds that draw the eye toward the face value. This particular specimen shows evidence of postal or fiscal use, marked by a dark, diagonal handwritten ink line cancellation running across the upper-middle section of the design.

Circa: 1948-1960s

Condition: Used - Hinged

Notes:

These official stamps were strictly reserved for governmental departments and state correspondence rather than general public mail. The word "Resmî" explicitly denotes this restricted administrative function, making them an interesting sub-category for collectors specializing in back-of-the-book issues or fiscal history. Because government offices frequently canceled stamps with specialized handstamps or simple pen strokes, finding examples with distinct administrative markings is common.
