Under Review

Material: Embroidered cloth.

Size: 35 × 35 mm.

Description: This artifact is an authentic, vintage British Commonwealth Boy Scouts proficiency patch representing the "Missioner" award. The circular emblem is constructed from a heavy khaki-tan woven canvas backing fabric. It features central, multi-strand silk embroidery depicting a three-bladed yellow fan symbol, often interpreted symbolically as a triskele or stylized ambulance wheel. This central emblem is bordered by a split-ring dark green border containing the text "BOY SCOUTS" stitched in block capital letters. The perimeter is finished with a tightly bound, whip-stitched tan edge roll, while the reverse side features a characteristic black or dark brown coarse cotton lining typical of mid-century military and youth organization insignia manufacture.

Circa: 1930s-1960s

Notes:

The Missioner Proficiency Badge was awarded for practical nursing and sick-room care. Requirements included preparing and ventilating a sick room, bathing a patient, administering medicine, taking temperature, preparing invalid food, preventing bed sores, preparing dressings, applying roller bandages, and carrying out the same duties under camp conditions, including preparation of a rest tent.
