Scout Wood Badge Training Insignia

Under Review

Material: Cloth

Size: 55mm w x 20mm h

Description: Set against a pale sage-green twill background, the central design features a dark gray rope rendered in tight satin stitching that loops gracefully to form a specialized double knot structure, resembling a set of shackle or handcuff loops. Flanking either side of the dark rope central structure are two stylized, symmetrical gold-yellow emblems shaped like double-bladed axes or butterfly wedges, carefully positioned over the outer ends of the cord. The entire rectangular piece is framed and structurally reinforced by a distinctively thick, braided sage-green merrowed border edge designed to prevent fraying when sewn onto a heavy canvas uniform shirt or sash.

Circa: Mid 20th Century

Notes:

The dual-loop and double-wedge iconography featured on this patch directly mirrors the historic Wood Badge leadership program founded by Robert Baden-Powell in 1919. The layout represents an advanced qualification for specialized Scout Commissioners or adult training leaders, where proficiency in pioneering, lashings, and heavy rope-work is mandatory. The specific combination of golden-yellow highlights over a subdued green background was deliberately chosen to harmonize with the olive-drab and khaki uniforms standardized by Commonwealth and international scouting associations during the mid-to-late twentieth century.
