Description: This artifact is an authentic regional uniform insignia issued for the Chester and District Scouts division within the United Kingdom Scout Association. Woven entirely from durable polyester threads on a solid black textile base, the narrow rectangular design features a colorful, stylized rendering of a Roman soldier standing in full battle attire. The figure is depicted with a golden galea helmet, silver lorica segmentata armor, red tunics, a scabbard sword, and a large red curved scutum shield. The city name "CHESTER" is boldly embroidered along the lower margin in uppercase serif typography, commemorating Deva Victrix, the ancient Roman fortress founded in the region during the 1st century A.D.
Circa: Mid-Late 20th century
Notes:
District badges helped identify the local Scouting area represented on a uniform. Chester's Roman imagery is especially fitting, drawing on the city's ancient foundation and giving the badge a strong local historical character.
