Description: This vintage military headdress insignia is a standard-issue General Service cap badge from the Union of South Africa. The die-stamped brass alloy piece features a central void and is equipped with dual reverse-mounted hexagonal lugs designed to receive a cotter pin attachment. The design centers around a beautifully modeled, left-facing head of a Springbok antelope (Antidorcas marsupialis) executing a highly textured horn formation. The central antelope is enclosed within a crisp circular garter band framed tightly by an outer border sculpted as a classical laurel wreath. The upper half of the garter is stamped with the English national motto reading "UNION IS STRENGTH", while the lower track mirrors the phrase with the Dutch translation reading "EENDRACHT MAAKT MACHT".
