Soviet Squaw Valley Olympic Alpine Skiing Stamp

Under Review

Description: This is an authentic commemorative postal issue from the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), released as part of a specialized series celebrating the VIII Olympic Winter Games in Squaw Valley. The central vignette focuses on a high-stakes moment in an alpine skiing event, highlighting a slalom competitor wearing bib number 12 as they lean heavily into a high-speed turns down a steep winter slope. An explosion of detailed, fine-line white snow sprays upward behind the skier, contrasting against the solid indigo sky background. The upper-left corner positions a bold orange Roman numeral "VIII" directly behind the classic five interlocking Olympic rings. Flowing along the upper right border, clean Cyrillic block typography reads "ЗИМНИЕ ОЛИМПИЙСКИЕ ИГРЫ 1960" (Winter Olympic Games 1960), finished by a tiny lower subtitle noting the location layout. The base houses a stylized white panel displaying the postal designation "ПОЧТА 40 К. СССР" (Postage 40 K. USSR), partially intersected on the lower-left edge by a dark, circular town datestamp cancellation.
