The Mineral Sanctuary

Under Review

Description: This horizontal definitive postage stamp from the Soviet Union presents a detailed view of Sanatorium No. 41 in the resort town of Zheleznovodsk. The central architecture features a striking Moorish-style palace with a prominent decorative dome and a slender minaret-like tower, surrounded by lush forest foliage and a low stone railing in the foreground. The upper border hosts a small name plaque that reads "ЖЕЛЕЗНОВОДСК" (Zheleznovodsk) in clean capital letters, while the face value "40 К" (40 Kopecks) is clearly positioned in the upper-right corner. A cursive inscription lower down states "Санаторий ВЦСПС № 41" (Sanatorium VTSSPS No. 41), and the country designation "ПОЧТА СССР" (Post Office USSR) stretches boldly across the bottom margin.

Circa: 1949

Condition: Used - Hinged

Notes:

The building showcased on this stamp is famously known as the Palace of the Emir of Bukhara, an exquisite piece of orientalist architecture built between 1907 and 1912 for Seyid Abdulahad Khan. Following the establishment of Soviet rule, the luxurious estate was nationalized and turned into a specialized wellness sanatorium managed by the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions (abbreviated in Cyrillic as ВЦСПС).
