Soviet Navy Officers Cockade Badge

Under Review

Material: Gilt brass with red enamel and silver anchor
Size: 55 mm W × 65 mm H
Description: The insignia is composed of a prominent golden laurel wreath backing featuring beautifully textured, layered rows of stylized leaves. At the center sits an intricately detailed silver fouled anchor wrapped in a mooring cable, positioned neatly inside a grooved circular golden target frame. Surmounting the entire display is a vibrant, five-pointed Soviet Red Star filled with translucent ruby enamel, featuring a central white disc that houses a silver hammer and sickle.
Reverse: The entirely gilded reverse side exposes a stippled texture across the main laurel wreath body and the top five-pointed star outline. Two separate sets of horizontal fastening mechanisms dominate the central core, showing the multi-piece build of the insignia. A pair of short, sturdy silver tabs firmly pin the central anchor medallion in place, while a much longer, flexible golden brass split prong extends outward to secure the entire unit through the fabric of a navy cap.
Circa: 1969-1991
Notes:

Standard issue for Soviet Navy officers’ peaked caps. The anchor and wreath represent naval command and victory, while the red star and hammer-and-sickle mark state service under the USSR. Worn on dress and service caps until the early 1990s.
This high-ranking officer version is highly prized because of its complex, three-piece construction rather than being a cheap, single-stamped metal piece. The red star, the central silver fouled anchor, and the large golden leaf wreath are all separate components joined together at the factory, giving the badge an impressive three-dimensional depth when viewed from the side.
