Soviet Makiivka Order of the Red Banner Commemorative Pin

Under Review

Material: Gilt metal with red and blue enamel
Size: 40 mm W × 35 mm H
Description: This badge is an authentic piece of Soviet commemorative memorabilia celebrating the city of Makiivka (spelled "МАКЕЕВКА" in Russian), a historically vital industrial and coal-mining hub located in the Donets Basin. The upper bar features a vibrant red enamel banner housing the city's name in raised gilt lettering, connected to a stylized ribbon suspension element enameled in light blue and dark blue stripes. Dangling from a small metal ring attachment is a miniature replica of the prestigious Order of the Red Banner of Labor, showcasing the iconic hammer and sickle motif beneath a red flag inscribed with the Cyrillic "СССР" initials. The entire piece is constructed from a lightweight brass alloy base finished with cold enamel, a classic production method used for regional and civic celebratory tokens.
Reverse: This image details the back side of the Makiivka commemorative badge, showing the specific industrial fabrication techniques used behind the Iron Curtain. The entire surface is characterized by a stippled, pebbled texture that hides surface imperfections on the lightweight aluminum alloy base. Affixed near the top is a simple wire safety pin fastener secured by a rectangular bracket mount, allowing the insignia to be easily attached to a uniform lapel or fabric pennant. Directly to the left of the safety pin hinge is a clear, recessed rectangular logo box containing the specialized maker's mark of the manufacturing plant.
Circa: 1970s–1980s
Notes:

This souvenir pin belongs to a highly collectible category of Soviet phaleristics dedicated to "Order-bearing Cities" (Города-орденоносцы), which were cities officially decorated by the state for outstanding industrial or wartime achievements. Makiivka was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in 1977 to recognize its massive contributions to metallurgical production and coal mining, making this pin a commemorative token issued directly following that event.
