Automóvel Clube de Portugal Golden Jubilee Stamp

Under Review

Description: This vintage stamp commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Automóvel Clube de Portugal (ACP), the nation's premier automotive and touring club founded at the dawn of motoring. The design features a prominent cream-colored ribbon woven into an infinity loop or figure-eight shape, carrying the Portuguese inscription "CINQUENTENÁRIO AUTOMÓVEL CLUBE DE PORTUGAL" alongside the commemorative years 1903 and 1953. Nestled inside the left loop is the club's early Edwardian heraldic seal topped with a royal crown, while the right loop houses the modern mid-century stylized "ACP" acronym emblem set inside a mechanical gear wheel. The base of the stamp frames the bold country designation "CORREIO PORTUGAL" and a 3$50 (three escudos and fifty centavos) currency denomination.

Circa: 1953

Condition: Used

Notes:

This anniversary issue is highly prized by collectors specializing in early automotive history and transport philately. The graphic work was created by the noted Portuguese artist Cândido Costa Pinto and printed via a crisp typography process by the state mint, Casa da Moeda, in Lisbon. A close inspection of the left emblem reveals the initials "RACP" for Real Automóvel Clube de Portugal, a nod to the organization's original royal patronage before the 1910 revolution transitioned the country into a republic. This particular copy features a light, partial postmark cancellation on the far left edge, giving it an authentic circulated status while leaving the highly detailed central motifs fully visible.
