Description: This vintage Polish commemorative postage stamp features the famous Warsaw Mermaid Monument (Pomnik Syreny w Warszawie). The central design depicts the sculpted statue of the legendary mermaid perched upon a pedestal, dynamically raising a sword in her right hand while gripping a protective round shield in her left arm. The artwork is rendered in a deep dark green monochromatic ink using a highly precise recess engraving process on an aged, greenish-yellow tinted paper background. A dark horizontal panel at the top bears the capitalized inscription "POMNIK • SYRENA • WARSZAWA". The face value "5 Gr" is split between the upper-left and upper-right corners. The lower boundary anchors a prominent bold title layout reading "POLSKA", flanked at the very bottom edge by microscopic engraver credits: "E. JOHN" for the primary designer, "PWPW" for the state security print shop, and "M.R. POLAK SC" for the master engraver. This specimen is surrounded by clean comb perforations and displays a partial, dark brown postmark strike near the lower-left edge.
