Description: This vintage Polish definitive postage stamp displays a formal, forward-facing portrait of President Bolesław Bierut, the prominent communist leader of post-World War II Poland. The complete composition is executed in a deep plum-purple or dull claret ink on an off-white paper stock via a fine steel-plate engraving method over a background of tight horizontal lines. The face value "5" is nestled inside a solid white square box in the upper-left corner, mirrored by the currency abbreviation "Gr" for groszy in the upper-right corner. A bold horizontal banner bearing the capitalized national text "POCZTA POLSKA" spans across the baseline of the stamp layout. Microscopic engraver credits are legible just beneath the bottom framework line, displaying "P.W.P.W." on the left for the state security print works and "S. ŁUKASZEWSKI" on the right to attribute the original portrait designer.
