Description: This Polish postage stamp displays a detailed vertical illustration of the historic monument dedicated to Feliks Dzerzhinsky in Warsaw. The figure stands firmly atop a high rectangular pedestal with a heavy overcoat draped across his shoulders. The top edge of the inner frame features the uppercase inscription "POMNIK F. DZIERŻYŃSKIEGO - WARSZAWA," while the large denomination "10 Gr" is split between the upper-left and upper-right corners. The word "POLSKA" is printed in bold, stylized block lettering across the lower baseline. Tiny text attributions identify the designer "E. JOHN," the printer "P.W.P.W.," and the engraver "ST. ŁUKASZEWSKI SC." along the bottom border.

Circa: 1955

Condition: Used - Hinged

Notes:

The subject of this stamp, Feliks Dzerzhinsky, was a prominent Polish-born revolutionary who famously founded the Soviet secret police, known as the Cheka. The physical monument depicted on this stamp was erected in Warsaw's Bank Square in 1951, which was simultaneously renamed Dzerzhinsky Square during the communist era. In a dramatic and highly symbolic public event on November 17, 1989, a massive crowd gathered to watch cranes pull down this specific concrete and bronze statue, signaling the structural collapse of the communist regime in Poland.
