Post-War Poland Purple Eagle Official Mail Issue

Under Review

Description: This vintage Polish official postage stamp features the stylized white Polish Eagle, the national coat of arms, displayed at the center of a dark purple, octagonal frame. The central octagon is surrounded by a repeating geometric background pattern that evokes dense security engine-turning lines. The top text banner bears the capitalized inscription "POCZTA POLSKA". The lower text panel explicitly designates the stamp's functional purpose with the inscription "PRZESYŁKA URZĘDOWA / ZWYKŁA", which translates from Polish to "Official Mail / Ordinary". A microscopic control code reading "M-01709" is printed neatly in the bottom right margin beneath the border lines. The item shows rough comb perforations on coarse paper and features a partial black postmark that curves along the bottom and right edges.

Circa: 1940s

Condition: Used - Hinged

Notes:

Unlike standard public postage, official stamps (known to collectors as "Officials" or "Urządowe") could not be bought by citizens to mail casual letters. They were strictly allocated to municipal offices, state courts, and government ministries to prevent private abuse of state funds.
