Description: This definitive postage stamp from the Polish People's Republic (Polska) showcases the famous Monument to the Brotherhood in Arms (Pomnik Braterstwa Broni) located in Warsaw. Rendered in a deep slate blue ink over a light peach background, the central vignette intricately reproduces the bronze sculpture depicting three armed soldiers standing back-to-back in defensive solidarity. The top header explicitly labels the subject with the inscription "POMNIK BRATERSTWA BRONI • WARSZAWA". The face value designation of 20 Groszy is split across the upper corners, with the numeral "20" on the left and the currency abbreviation "Gr" on the right. The country name "POLSKA" anchors the base of the monument in a bold, stylized font, while the bottom margin credits the original designer "E. JOHN" on the left, the state printing works "PWPW" in the center, and the master engraver "J. MILLER SC." on the right. Several parallel wavy black ink lines from a postal cancel run horizontally across the vignette, indicating successful delivery use.

Circa: 1950s

Condition: Used - Hinged

Notes:

The monument depicted on this stamp was originally unveiled in Warsaw in November 1945 to honor the joint struggle of the Polish and Soviet soldiers against Nazi Germany during World War II. Popularly known among Warsaw residents as the "Four Sleeping Ones" (Czterej Śpiący) due to the passive poses of the secondary figures, the physical monument was eventually dismantled during modern city transit developments.
