4th Otago Regiment Cap Badge

Under Review

Material: Gilding metal

Size: 45 mm x 35 mm

Description: The insignia is an authentic first-pattern other ranks' cap badge, die-stamped from a single piece of high-grade brass alloy. The central motif features a highly detailed, naturalistic depiction of a native New Zealand kiwi bird standing on a grassy, textured plot of ground. This central figure is enclosed within a sprawling, symmetric wreath of twin silver-fern fronds. Woven across the upper section is a flowing master scroll split into two banners reading "SOUTH AFRICA" on top and "1901-02" below it. The lower boundary anchors the design with a broad, three-part downward curving scroll inscribed left to right with the raised regiment identifier "4TH OTAGO REGT". The reverse side shows a crisp hollow strike stamped with the official manufacturer hallmark reading "J.R. GAUNT LONDON", fitted with its original dual copper wire loops (lugs) to pin it onto the felt service hat.

Circa: Early 20th Century
