Norwegian Cancer Society Charity Label

Under Review

Description: This vintage item is an authentic Norwegian charity label, often referred to by collectors as a Cinderella poster stamp, issued by the Norwegian Cancer Society (Kreftforeningen). The central monochromatic artwork portrays a muscular allegorical figure emerging from a bed of flames or thorns, dynamically raising a blazing torch that erupts into stylized, linear rays of light across the upper sky. Block typography reading "KREFTFORENINGEN" stretches prominently across the lower baseline, positioned directly above the organization's historic headquarters address, "SJØFARTSBYGNINGEN - OSLO". The piece features clean, standard line perforations around its rectangular perimeter and displays a horizontal paper crease or light cancellation bar cutting across the lower third of the design.

Circa: 1958-1961

Condition: Used

Notes:

Unlike standard postal issues, this item is a specialized charity vignette or "Cinderella" label, meaning it held no face-value denomination and could not legally pay for postage on its own. Instead, these labels were sold to the Norwegian public to raise vital research funds, designed to be pasted onto the reverse side of envelopes alongside official government stamps as a visible badge of philanthropic support. The address inscribed along the bottom border, the Sjøfartsbygningen (Maritime Building) in Oslo, is a famous architectural landmark erected in 1915 that served as the foundational headquarters for Norway’s centralized cancer awareness programs during the mid-twentieth century.
