The Calligraphic Numeral

Under Review

Description: This definitive low-value stamp presents a large, elegant numeral "2" positioned directly in the center of a rich blue background. The country name "NEDERLAND" stretches across the top boundary in a clean, all-capital serif font, balanced by the denomination word "CENT" located neatly at the bottom edge. Symmetrical, looping flourishes that resemble flowing white calligraphy border the central number on both the left and right sides. This specific specimen is a used stamp that displays heavy black curved cancellation markings slicing diagonally across the design, indicating its path through the Dutch mail system.

Circa: 1946-1957

Condition: Used - Hinged

Notes:

The famous Dutch typographer and graphic artist Jan van Krimpen designed this exquisite lettering style, which collectors universally refer to as the "Type Van Krimpen" numeral series. Van Krimpen sought to replace older, cluttered stamp formats with a highly disciplined layout focused entirely on the clarity of the currency numbers.
