Vigilant Mail Courier

Under Review

Description: The stamp utilizes a vertical rectangular format to frame a detailed monochromatic photogravure engraving. The artwork depicts a male postal delivery worker, known locally as a cartero, dressed in a structured official cap and buttoned winter uniform jacket while carefully inspecting a letter held in his left hand. The busy background outlines the grand, multi-tiered stone façade and arched window entrance of the main post office facility in Mexico City. The numeric face value "15 Centavos" is cleanly stacked in the upper-right corner field. Anchoring the design base is a solid horizontal banner reading "CORREOS · MEXICO," which is overlaid by a series of thin, wavy black lines from a machine postmark tracking its movement through the domestic sorting hubs.

Circa: 1947-1950

Condition: Used - Hinged

Notes:

This 15 Centavos definitive variety was released as a special standalone issue by Mexico to pay tribute to the historical importance of the nation's mail service. The building illustrated in fine detail behind the courier is the iconic Palacio de Correos de México, an architectural masterpiece completed in 1907 that combines eclectic Plateresque and Gothic Revival design elements.
