Mexico's Mosquito Eradication Campaign

Under Review

Description: This stamp is a 1-centavo (1 CENT) postal tax stamp issued by the Republic of Mexico (Correos Mexico). Printed via a crisp intaglio method, the composition presents a highly stylized, dark green mosquito draped over the pale, unprinted figure of a defenseless man falling backward. The left margin carries the bold country inscription "CORREOS MEXICO" in a clean sans-serif typeface, while the face value "1 CENT" sits balanced at the top right. Running vertically down the right border is the thematic campaign slogan "CAMPANA CONTRA EL PALUDISMO" (Campaign Against Malaria). A micro-printed signature at the base reveals the national security printing facility, while a dark, curved postal handstamp fragments the lower-right quadrant.

Circa: 1939

Condition: Used - Hinged

Notes:

This issue was not a standard postage stamp; rather, it was a mandatory postal tax stamp (beneficencia). Every citizen sending a domestic letter was legally required to purchase and attach this 1-centavo stamp in addition to regular postage, with 100% of the funds funneled directly to financing anti-malarial sanitation and field treatments.
