Under Review

Description: This specimen is a 2-cent definitive postage stamp issued by the British colonial administration of Mauritius. The entire surface is printed in a striking, uniform shades of deep rose-red and coral pink. The central design frames an evocative local maritime scene at Grand Port, illustrating a group of local fishermen or boatmen working aboard a pirogue against a backdrop of the island's distinctive, jagged volcanic mountain ranges. Positioned in the upper left corner is an elegant oval medallion enclosing the iconic Dorothy Wilding portrait profile of Queen Elizabeth II beneath her royal crown. Bold sans-serif lettering cleanly displays the name "MAURITIUS" across the top, while the face value denomination "2 CENTS" is centered horizontally above the bay scene.

Circa: Mid 20th Century

Condition: Unused - Hinged

Notes:

The location depicted holds immense historical significance as the site of the famous 1810 Battle of Grand Port, which was the only naval victory secured by the French Navy over the British Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars.
