Treasure detail

Malta George VI Neolithic Hypogeum

Under Review

Description: The design prominently illustrates the monumental rock-cut architectural chambers of the ancient Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum located in Paola. Positioned at the upper left corner is the country inscription "MALTA", which sits directly adjacent to a small imperial crown centered at the top crest. The right side features a circular medallion framing the left-facing profile portrait of King George VI, balanced symmetrically on the opposite corner by a traditional Maltese Cross insignia. The numeral "1½d" is boldly engraved on the left side, representing a face value of one penny halfpenny. This particular specimen is marked across its central design by a dark, segmented post office cancellation stamp from circulation.
