Material: Silvered bronze (nickel or silver wash)
Size: 35 mm h × 32 mm w
Description: This official service decoration features a highly detailed, oval-shaped design crafted from a silver-plated die-struck zinc or cupal base metal alloy. The center is dominated by a raised, polished emblem displaying a traditional firefighting leather helmet with neck guard, superimposed over a crossed fireman's broadaxe and a heavy demolition hammer. This central cluster sits atop a smooth black enamel or painted background insert, positioned directly above a prominent two-line German text inscription that reads "FÜR 25 JÄHRIGE / DIENSTZEIT", translating directly to For 25 Years of Service Time. The entire central vignette is beautifully bordered by an integrated, highly detailed wreath of overlapping oak leaves bound together at the bottom base by a crossed ribbon tie.
Reverse: Within the wreath appears the inscription: VERLIEHEN VOM PREUSSISCHEN LANDES FEUERWEHR
VERBAND (“Awarded by the Prussian State Fire Service Association”).
Circa: 1922-1936
Notes:
This medal was issued by the Preußischer Landesfeuerwehrverband to recognize 25 years of volunteer or professional fire service. Before the centralization of German emergency services under the Nazi government in the mid-1930s, many fire brigades were organized through regional and provincial associations, which issued their own long-service awards. The oak wreath symbolizes civic honor and longevity, while the helmet and crossed tools represent the traditional equipment of the fire brigade.
