Global Commemoration of Postal Unity

Under Review

Description: This horizontal British colonial commemorative stamp is printed in a striking, monochromatic deep orange ink. The left side of the composition features a dynamic depiction of Hermes, the winged messenger of the gods, striding across a stylized globe with a flowing cape draped behind him. To his right, geometric lines map out a symbolic web connecting a speeding monoplane in the sky to a massive ocean liner traversing the open seas below. The top right quadrant displays the inscription "UNIVERSAL POSTAL UNION" flanked by the historic milestone years "1874" and "1949." A distinct box in the lower left corner anchors the face value of "20 CENTS." Running along the baseline is a clean border containing the joint territory designation "KENYA TANGANYIKA AND UGANDA." Heavy, dark postmark ink marks smudge across the left side of the design, indicating its path through the postal system.
