The Imperial Seal

Under Review

Description: This vintage Japanese definitive postage stamp is part of the historic Tazawa series, featuring a face value of 3 sen. Designed by Tazawa Shogen, the layout centers around a bold vertical plaque containing the kanji characters for the value "参銭" (3 sen), beautifully crowned by a detailed sixteen-petal Chrysanthemum Crest (Kikumon) which serves as the official Imperial Seal of Japan. The plaque is flanked by two prominent circular medallions displaying the Western numeral "3" on the left and the abbreviated currency symbol "SN" on the right. A stylized scroll across the upper arch bears the kanji text "大日本帝国郵便," identifying the issuer as the Imperial Japanese Post. The entire piece is rendered in a vibrant rose-carmine ink and finished with a distinct black wavy-line postal cancellation.
