Japanese First Showa New Year

Under Review

Description: This vibrant 2-sen carmine-red postage stamp represents an official postal issue from the Empire of Japan. The central motif depicts a stylized noshi, a traditional Japanese ritual gift decoration crafted from folded paper and dried abalone strip, which serves as an auspicious symbol of longevity and good fortune. Positioned prominently at the upper center is the 16-petal Imperial Chrysanthemum Crest, flanked by the classic right-to-left kanji characters reading "Great Japan Empire Post." The bottom corners display the numerical "2" alongside the traditional kanji denomination for two sen, while the lower left corner features a tiny inscription marking the twelfth year of the Showa era.
