Treasure detail

Colonial Jamaica New Constitution Commemorative Stamp

Under Review

Description: This historical artifact is the 1½d (one and a half penny) denomination from Jamaica's commemorative philatelic series celebrating political reform under the British crown. The primary engraving captures the majestic Georgian façade of the historic Falmouth Courthouse, erected originally in 1815 in the Trelawny Parish. Positioned prominently on the left is a circular medallion showcasing King George VI in formal military attire, surmounted by the St. Edward's Imperial Crown. Bold banner text along the lower frame proclaims "NEW CONSTITUTION 1944", commemorating the landmark legislative shifts that paved the early path toward Jamaican independence.

Circa: 1945

Condition: Used

Notes:

The "New Constitution 1944" series is highly regarded by British Commonwealth collectors because it marks Jamaica’s historic transition toward universal adult suffrage and self-governance. While the political milestone occurred in 1944, printing complexities at the legendary London firm Waterlow & Sons Ltd. delayed the actual release of the stamps until late the following summer.
