Treasure detail

Jamaican Banana Export Pictorial

Under Review

Description: : This Jamaican 3d stamp depicts a worker carrying bananas beside a coastal landscape, with a steamship offshore. The design uses two colors: green for the portrait, lettering, worker and foreground vegetation, and blue for the ship, water and distant landscape. An oval portrait of King George VI faces right on the left side. The denomination appears below the portrait, while “BANANAS” labels the scene at the lower right. A dark cancellation crosses the left portion of this used example.

Circa: 1938

Condition: Used

Notes: Bananas reached Jamaica through Spanish introduction, centuries before the island’s export industry developed.
