India Decimal Map Definitive

Under Review

Description: This 50-naye paise definitive postage stamp was issued by India to establish political and monetary identity. The central design frames an outline map of India set against a large, solid circular background, symbolizing a unified state. The vertical country name "INDIA" anchors the right margin, while the lower banner displays "POSTAGE" alongside the dual denomination markings of "न.पै. 50 N.P.". A wide decorative band filled with traditional Indian floral artwork structures the left margin, completing the iconic mid-century aesthetic.

Circa: Mid 20th Century

Condition: Used - Hinged

Notes:

This stamp holds massive historic significance because it belongs to the definitive series that officially launched India's conversion to a decimalized currency structure. Prior to this 1957 series, Indian postage relied on the old colonial system of pies, pice, and annas; the new "Naye Paise" (new paise) notation shown here signaled a modern break from the past. Because this definitive was heavily used on foreign letters and heavy domestic packets, it is common postally used, but pristine mint copies with original gum are more elusive.
