Description: This photogravure-printed, rich purple definitive stamp from India highlights a prominent cartographic silhouette map of the country. The national mainland design is set cleanly against a dark, solid circular background, framed elegantly on the left side by a vertical band containing decorative traditional scrolling lotus vines. The name "INDIA" is stacked in bold letters along the right-hand margin, while the lower border contains the word "POSTAGE" placed directly beside the "15 N.P." face value in western digits and its corresponding shorthand Devanagari script notation. A heavy, dark post office cancellation handstamp runs along the right margin, lightly smudging the country name to prove its past commercial transit through the domestic mail stream.
