Description: Left-facing portrait of Queen Victoria within circular tablet. Elaborate scrollwork denomination panels at left and right. Greek-key outer border typical of De La Rue’s Indian fiscal designs.
Circa: 1870s
Condition: Used example with impressed fiscal cancellation. Minor lower margin creasing and age toning consistent with document use. Perforations largely intact.
Notes:
Applied to legal documents, court filings, property transfers, receipts, and other administrative instruments requiring duty payment under British Indian law. Part of the formalized fiscal stamp system introduced after the Crown assumed direct control of India in 1858. Higher-value annas denominations such as the 8A were commonly used for mid-level legal and administrative fees and are less frequently encountered than lower annas types.
