British Raj India General Service Button

Under Review

Material: Gilt brass
Diameter: 17 mm
Description: This 17mm die-struck brass General Service uniform button features a highly detailed rendering of the official British Royal Coat of Arms. The composition displays the majestic lion and chained unicorn heraldic supporters flanking a central quarterly shield, all surmounted by an early-twentieth-century King's Crown (kc). Flowing below the heraldic beasts is a detailed ribbon scroll bearing the monarch's French motto "DIEU ET MON DROIT," which translates to "God and my right". The face shows excellent structural preservation with a warm, golden-brass luster and typical localized dirt accumulation clinging softly within the deep crevices of the crown and lettering.
Reverse: Marked A. A. SONS AGH.
Circa: 1902-1947
Notes:

The stamped backmark reading "A.A. Sons" paired with the regional manufacturing code "AGH" identifies this button as a localized product of A.A. & Sons, a prolific historic metal workshop operating out of Aligarh, India (frequently abbreviated as IGARH or AGH). Aligarh was universally celebrated as the premier hub for brass foundry work, metallurgy, and lock manufacturing throughout the British Raj era.
