Treasure detail

Calf of Man 3 Murreys Chough

Under Review

Description: The central rectangle features a beautifully detailed grayscale vignette of a Chough, a distinctive red-billed member of the crow family, shown perched attentively upon a coastal rock formation. Framing this artwork is a bold, solid blue border featuring the clean white text "ISLE OF MAN" running vertically up the left margin and "CALF OF MAN" running parallel down the right side. The upper-right corner of the inner frame contains the large numeral "3" situated directly above the word "MURREYS", acknowledging the traditional regional currency named in honor of 17th-century Manx coinage innovator John Murrey.

Circa: 1963–1973

Condition: MNH

Notes:

Issued by the private Calf of Man Local Post, this 3 Murreys stamp forms part of a local wildlife-themed series associated with the island and the Calf Bird Observatory. The chough is closely tied to Manx identity and coastal landscape, making it a fitting subject for the issue.

These were local or cinderella issues rather than standard national postage stamps, using the playful denomination “murreys” for souvenir and local postal use.
