First Israeli Definitive Coinage Issue

Under Review

Description: This vintage postage stamp is an authentic 10-pruta green definitive issue from Israel. The central design features a detailed line drawing of an ancient bronze coin dating back to the First Jewish Revolt against the Roman Empire, specifically illustrating a three-pronged palm branch (lulav) flanked by ethrog fruits. Bold typography reading "ISRAEL" is rendered at the top in Hebrew and across the bottom banner in English and Arabic, accompanied by the large numeral "10". The vertical side inscriptions written in Hebrew provide historical context regarding the coin's origins. It features standard horizontal line perforations and bears a partial, dark black wavy postal cancellation mark indicating authentic historical usage.

Circa: 1949-1950

Condition: Used

Notes:

When the provisional "Doar Ivri" (Hebrew Post) stamps were hastily designed just hours before independence in May 1948, the creators did not yet know what the official name of the new country would be. By the time this subsequent 1949 definitive coin series was prepared, the state had formally selected its title, allowing designer Otte Wallish to explicitly print "Israel" across the face of the stamps for the first time. The ancient numismatic artifacts chosen for the central artwork were intended to directly link the modern post to historical independence movements from antiquity.
