Material: Brass
Size: 32 mm W × 25 mm H
Description: This is an original 32mm wide by 25mm high die-struck brass collar insignia from the Transport Corps (An Cór Iompair) of the Irish Defence Forces. The central vignette features a highly stylized, relief engraving of an ancient warrior steering a horse-drawn Celtic chariot past a fortified stone gateway castle. This historic scene is surrounded by two framing laurel wreaths, which anchor a three-part ribbon banner written entirely in Irish Gaelic script. The main scroll reads "SOLÁTHAIR 7 IOMPAIR" (Supply and Transport), utilizing the traditional Tironian et symbol ("7") for the word "and," while the central pedestal plaque reads "AN CÓR" (The Corps). The reverse side is finished with a smooth unmarked surface equipped with an pair of original vertical wire lugs designed to slide through collar tabs.
Circa: 1920s-1970s
Notes:
The roots of the corps trace back to the volatile foundation of the Irish Free State during the 1922–1923 Irish Civil War, when the newly established National Army hastily requisitioned civilian trucks, buses, and open-top touring cars to rapidly move troops across the country.
