Semanggi Cloverleaf Interchange

Under Review

Description: This Indonesian postage stamp was issued to commemorate the massive infrastructure overhaul leading up to a major multi-sport event in the capital city. The focal point of the design is an aerial view of the iconic Semanggi Interchange (Simpang Susun Semanggi), a massive cloverleaf intersection constructed to connect Jakarta's primary thoroughfares. The stamp incorporates a bold color-blocked layout of teal, golden-yellow, and off-white. Running vertically down the left side is the inscription "ASIAN GAMES IV", complemented by "DJAKARTA 1962" and "REPUBLIK INDONESIA" in clean typography across the lower section. The sub-theme "ROAD IMPROVEMENT" is printed directly beneath the graphic, while the official sunburst emblem of the games rests in the upper right corner, positioned above the face value of "030" (30 sen).

Circa: 1962

Condition: Unused - Hinged

Notes:

This specimen is a clean, mint hinged example displaying sharp perforations and vibrant color contrast. The Semanggi Interchange depicted on the stamp was a signature project championed by Indonesia's first president, Sukarno, who chose the distinct cloverleaf design because it resembled a semanggi (four-leaf clover), a local symbol of national unity and prosperity. Built specifically to handle the influx of traffic for the 1962 Asiad, it stood as the first and largest multi-level road interchange in Indonesia for decades.
