Architecture of a Model Socialist Town

Under Review

Description: This definitive postage stamp from the Hungarian People's Republic features an engraved architectural depiction of the Sztálinvárosi Iskola (Stalin City School). Printed in a muted olive-green ink palette, the monochrome composition presents a multi-wing modern school facility, highlighting rows of classroom windows, geometric facade blocks, and a small stylized star structure atop the main roof line. The face value "8f" (8 fillér) is cleanly aligned in the upper-right corner frame. The location identifying inscription "SZTÁLINVÁROSI ISKOLA" runs across the upper-left interior layout, while the formal state postal inscription "MAGYAR POSTA" stretches horizontally across the base frame. A light, partial postmark cancellation is faintly visible along the top right margin.

Circa: 1951-1953

Condition: Used - Hinged

Notes:

Sztálinváros (literally "Stalin City," today known as Dunaújváros) was founded from scratch in 1951 as Hungary's premier socialist model city. It was purpose-built around a massive new steel plant, and this 8-fillér stamp served as a propaganda tool to highlight the family-centric infrastructure and modern educational benefits provided to the newly arrived industrial workers.
