Hungarian Agriculture Definitive Issue

Under Review

Description: This stamp is a post-WWII definitive issue from Hungary, featuring the "Industry and Agriculture" thematic series. Printed in dark green ink on a light yellowish-green paper base, the design portrays a classic allegorical woman representing farming or harvest. She is shown in a long dress, lifting a sickle in her right hand while resting her left arm on a massive stylized sheaf of wheat or cornucopia, symbolizing the country's rural revival and agricultural reliance. The central vignette is enclosed within an ornate octagonal frame, which is flanked by the words "MAGYAR" on the left and "POSTA" on the right. Reflecting its monetary denomination, the large numeral "2" is balanced symmetrically across all four corners of the stamp, paired with the text "FORINT" printed boldly across both the top and bottom margins.

Circa: 1946

Condition: Used - Hinged

Notes:

This issue arrived during a momentous turning point in Hungarian history, succeeding the introduction of the modern Forint currency on August 1, 1946, which was engineered to stabilize the economy after the Pengő suffered the worst hyperinflation disaster in recorded global history. The "Industry and Agriculture" series was designed to instill a sense of national pride and recovery, depicting basic blue-collar and agrarian labor roles crucial to building back infrastructure.
