Sanctuary of the Pine Forests

Under Review

Description: This artifact is an original 1.50-drachma green postage stamp issued by Greece as a key component of its historic 1961 Tourist Publicity Definitive Issue. Titled "ΟΛΥΜΠΙΑ" (Olympia) in the top left corner, the design captures the serene, weathered ruins of the Altis, the sacred grove of Zeus where the ancient Olympic Games were held for centuries. The line-engraved illustration showcases a sprawling hill blanketed in dense Mediterranean pine trees overlooking a row of classical Doric columns, beautifully blending Greece's rich classical heritage with its natural landscapes. The bottom banner proudly displays the country's name in traditional Greek script, "ΕΛΛΑΣ," alongside the denomination "ΔΡ. 1.50," framing the island nation's postwar push to revitalize its international image.
