Under Review

Description: This vertically oriented definitive stamp from France features a face value of 50 Francs (printed as "50F" in the upper right quadrant) and celebrates the popular sport of rugby. The central illustration captures an intense moment during a match, featuring an offensive player charging forward with an oval rugby ball tucked firmly under his arm while a defensive player in a V-necked jersey attempts a flying tackle. In the deep background, a structural stadium grandstand and a distant player add depth to the athletic scene. The left border contains the vertically aligned word "POSTES", and the upper margin reads "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE" to declare the issuing country. The base of the stamp features the bold sport name "RUGBY" flanked in the bottom corners by the tiny production credits of the designer "R. SERRES" (Raoul Serres) and the master engraver "J. PIEL" (Jules Piel).
