France's Marianne de Decaris

Under Review

Description: This stamp is a 0.25-franc (0,25) definitive issue from the French Republic (République Française). Printed using a specialized typography method, the visual composition presents a striking left-facing profile of Marianne, the national personification of France who embodies the core values of liberty and the enlightenment. Her hair is intricately braided and bound into a classic bun. A stylized grain stem emerges in the lower-left corner beneath her silhouette. The country designation "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE" lines the top and left borders, while the word "POSTES" balances the right-hand margin. The facial denomination value of "0,25" is cleanly positioned across the lower right field. A sweeping, dark circular ink cancellation curves over the upper-left quadrant of the paper surface.

Circa: 1960s

Condition: Used - Hinged

Notes:

This iconic design bears the name of its legendary designer, Albert Decaris, who drew the master layout. The actual printing plates were carved by the celebrated French master engraver Jules Piel at the Imprimerie des Timbres-Poste in Paris.
