Boy Scouts VAER BEREDT Button

Under Review

Material: Brown molded plastic with integral shank
Size: 17mm
Description: This vintage uniform button from the Danish Scouting movement features a finely molded, raised emblem displaying the international Scouting fleur-de-lis, complete with two tiny five-pointed stars inset into the outer petals. Nestled elegantly beneath the fleur-de-lis is a beautifully curved banner ribbon carrying the embossed national motto, "VÆR BEREDT," rendered in crisp, clean block lettering. The entire central medallion structure is framed by a highly detailed, continuous molded rope-twist border that gives the piece an authentic maritime or nautical aesthetic. The button is crafted from a rich chocolate-brown plastic composition and displays a smooth, slightly reflective surface sheen.
Circa: 1950s–1970s
Notes:

The phrase "Vær Beredt" translates directly from Danish as "Be Prepared", the universal motto originally established by Scouting founder Robert Baden-Powell. These compact buttons transitioned from traditional stamped metals to durable molded plastics during the mid-century era to lower production costs and prevent metallic corrosion during rugged, all-weather outdoor camporees and wilderness training exercises.
