Description: This is an authentic definitive postage stamp issued by the Weimar Republic (Deutsches Reich) during the historic 1923 hyperinflation crisis. The underlying base stamp is a 200 Mark issue featuring a detailed, repeating basketweave background pattern printed in an orange-red or carmine-orange hue. Curving along the top border is the traditional country name "Deutsches Reich" in an ornate Fraktur script. To cope with the collapsing value of the currency, the German state post office applied a heavy black overprint directly over the original design. The prominent center surcharge features a large numeral "2" resting above the word "Millionen" (2 Million Marks). Across the lower margin, a dense row of twenty thick, black vertical bars completely stamps out and covers the obsolete original "200 Mark" value text.
