East German State Crest Official Issue

Under Review

Description: This deep purple and buff postage stamp is an official service issue (Dienstmarke) released by the German Democratic Republic (DDR / East Germany). The central graphic showcases a detailed rendering of the early East German state emblem enclosed in a bold circular frame. The crest features a central hammer overlaid with a pair of engineering compasses, surrounded by a symmetrical wreath of rye wheat bound together at the base by a tricolor ribbon. The state designation "DEUTSCHE DEMOKRATISCHE REPUBLIK" fills the upper header, while the lower frame anchors a face value of 15 Pfennig flanking the label "dienstmarke". This postally used specimen is slashed by a thin, dark circular cancellation line cutting across the upper-right corner.

Circa: 1950s-1960s

Condition: Used

Notes:

These stamps occupied a unique legal space; it was a serious offense for an ordinary citizen to use a Dienstmarke on private mail. Every single used specimen on the market represents an authentic piece of official state paperwork processed behind closed government doors.
